The reactor (1) effluent is separated in the deisobutanizer (2) into an isobutylene/methanol azeotrope overhead and an MTBE/MePH bottom product. The azeotrope is treated in a methanol recovery section consisting of an extraction (3) and a distillation tower (4). The wet isobutylene is freed of water and dimethyl ether - a side product of the MTBE decomposition - by molecular sieve adsorption (5) to yield isobutylene in 99.9% purity. The MTBE/MeOH mixture is split in an additional tower (6) into an overhead MTBE containing recycle stream, a side cut to remove the traces of C8-olefins formed during MTBE decomposition and the bottom product methanol. |
