적용 To produce 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) from n-butyraldehyde using the Hoechst 2-EH process.
설명 Description: The aldolization (1) of n-butyraldehyde in the presence of aqueous caustic soda yields 2-ethylhexenol. From the reaction mixture the aqueous phase is separated (2) and partly recycled to the aldolization unit. The excess aqueous phase is taken out of the plant as wastewater.
   The organic phase reacts (3) with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst forming 2-ethylhexanol. In the subsequent distillation (4) the pure 2-ethylhexanol is obtained by separation from light and heavy ends.

Yields: For the production of 1,000 kg 2-ethylhexanol, 1,145kg n-butyraldehyde (100 %) are needed.
