Chelation ion chromatography on Alizarin Red-S loaded stannic silicate-Selective separation of Cd2+ and Pb2+ from some transition metal ions
A chromatograhically useful packing material has been prepared by the adsorption of Alizarin Red-S on cation exchanger stannic silicate. Adsorption behaviour of some transition and heavy metals on Alizarin Red-S loaded stannic silicate has been studied in aqueous solutions of pH 1-6. This material has been used for the selective separation of Cd2+ and Pb2+ from a mixture of several cations, viz. Cr3+, Hg2+, Fe3+, Co2+ and Ni2+. using nitric acid solution of pH 1 and 6 as eluents. In addition, some binary separations of metal ions, namely Zn2+ - cd(2+), Mn2+ - cd(2+) , Hg2+ - AI(3+) - pb(2+) and Cr3+ - Pb2+ have also been achieved on a chromatographic column packed with Alizarin Red-S loaded stannic silicate.
