Storage of hydrogen in commercial activated carbon
Porous structure of active carbon was investigated using densimetry and adsorptive techniques. This analysis enables one to determine the volumes of micro-, meso-, and macropores present in the whole volume of the particles, as well as to evaluate their porosity. The concept of hydrogen adsorption storage in commercial activated carbon was analysed. The hydrogen adsorption capacity was evaluated in the temperature range of 77-298 K at the pressure up to 9 MPa. The amount of gas that can be stored in an adsorption system depends on the adsorbent characteristics and the operating conditions. The method was compared with another one taking into account both technical and practical aspects. The results show that the cryo-adsorption technique could provide a viable method for hydrogen storage.
