The kinetics of the esterification of phthalic anhydride with n-octyl alcohol has been investigated in an experimental isothermal semi-batch reactor. It was found that when using acid ion exchange resin Dowex as a catalyst, it is not an elementary reaction. The kinetic parameters have been determined.
