Flocculation and breakage of fractal aggregates in mixers
A mathematical model describing evolution of solid aggregates suspended in turbulently mixed suspension is presented. The lumped discrete form of population balance equations and fractal structure of aggregates have been employed in the model. The model has been verified on the basis of own experimental results dealing with aggregation and breakage of chalk suspended in distilled water in the presence of surfactant. A set of population balance equations has been solved numerically and the resulting particle distributions showed quite acceptable fitness with those obtained experimentally.
