Usage of impregnated activated carbons for mercury removal from acid flue gases
The paper presents values of obtained dynamic sorption capacities of tested impregnated activated carbons in relation to elementary mercury vapours (Hg-0) - a dominating form of mercury existing in carbon waste gases. Activated charcoal and bituminous carbons impregnated with elementary sulfur, potassium iodide and chelating compound were used for studies. Gas containing about 28 mg Hg-0/m(3) and 90% of SO2 in temperature 35degreesC was let through stable bed (the gases contact time with the bed was about 2 seconds). The highest sorption capacity (145 mg Hg-0/sorbent g) was obtained for bituminous carbon impregnated with chelating compound. The values for carbons impregnated with sulfur and potassium iodide were 19-56 mg Hg-0/sorbent g and 12 mg Hg-0/sorbent g, respectively.
