Optimal drying conditions of porous material wetted with aqueous polymer solution
Convective-conductive drying experiments were performed using a glass particle layer wetted with aqueous polyvinylalcohol (PVA) solution, and the drying rate and PVA content profile of the dried sample were measured. In the drying of such a material, a high initial drying rate leads to deposition of the polymer near the drying surgace, which reduces the subsequent drying rate. when the initial drying rate was decreased by stopping the supply of hot air for convective drying for various periods, the shortest overall drying time was obtained when conductibe drying only was applied for a certain initial perod, while the lowest drying energy and PVA content near the surface were found when conductive drying only was applied for the entire drying time.
