Estimation of filtering velocity and pressure drop parameters from total pressure drop in a multi-compartment bag filter
The parameters that expressed quantitatively the filtering velocity difference between compartments in a multi-compartment bag filter, i.e., the ratio of the filtering velocity in the compartment just before cleaning (u) over bar (N) to the average one of all compartments u(av), m, and the variance of the filtering velocities (u) over bar (i), sigma(2)/u(av)(2), were correlated well with the operating conditions of filtration. By connecting the correlations of initial total pressure drop DeltaP(IN) and final total pressure drop DeltaP(FIN) derived in the previous paper (Ikeno et al., 2002) with the correlations of m and sigma(2) derived in the present paper, the pressure drop parameters zeta(d) and alpha and the average filtering velocity u(av) were estimated. In the estimation procedure, the simulated values of the initial total pressure drop Delta(PIN, sim) and final total pressure drop DeltaP(FIN,sim) were used. The estimated values of zeta(d) and alpha coincided well with the original values used in the numerical simulation under when the filtering velocity in each compartment did not deviate greatly from the average filtering velocity, whereas the estimated value of u v coincided well with the original value of the numerical simulation under all filtering conditions.
