Synthesis of Novel Biodegradable Superabsorbent Materials from Natural Polymer
In the present study, we aimed to develop a novel superabsorbent material suitable for desert afforestation. In addition, we aimed to give biodegradability to the superabsorbent material from the environmental viewpoint. To give the biodegradability, natural polysaccharide was used as a raw material. Acrylic monomer was polymerized on the natural polysaccharide by graft polymerization method. The water retentivity of the synthesized polymer was evaluated. As the results, our polymer was found to have some biodegradability with better heat resistance but a little less water retention capacity than conventional super absorbent materials.
