Low pressure plasma pretreatment of ASA/PC-blend surfaces
The influence of process gas on low pressure plasma pretreatment (oxygen, argon, nitrogen) on the adhesion improvement of epoxy, polyurethane and acrylic adhesives at Acrylnitril-Styrol-Acrylester-Polycarbonat (ASA/PC)-surfaces was investigated. The increase of bonding strength for cold hardening epoxy-adhesives in comparison with samples as received was independent of the process gas. Similar behaviour was observed for polyurethane adhesives, but the bond strength was significantly larger than for epoxy adhesives. On the other hand the fracture behaviour was different. For hot-hardening epoxy adhesives the bond strength was very low; due to low adhesion of adhesives to adherent. For acrylic adhesives the improvement of adhesion after low pressure plasma pretreatment was insignificant.
