Particularly in the electrical/electronics sector, laser beam welding of plastic materials is increasingly replacing conventional methods such as bonding or screwing. This trend is promoted by the rapid developments in the area of radiation sources, inline and process technology and in the area of specific materials. The area of fast-growing markets of sensor technology, electronics and micro system technology in particular the process is expected to become increasingly popular in the future. At present, all important suppliers to the automotive industry are currently developing or prototyping at least one laser-welded product.
