When it comes to simulation, users have a wide range of expectations: from identifying weakpoints and influencing factors in a complex system to complete simulation of that system ("from the molecule to the component"). The key to satisfying these expectations lies in suitable modelling and model abstraction. Examples from different applications show that simulation in the plastics sector is already making an important contribution to an improved understanding of highly complex processes and the factors that influence them.
