A new generation of plastic/metal-hybrids
Functional and economic benefits can be achieved by incorporating a damping inter-layer into metal-hybrid parts. The parts are manufactured by MCDS (multi-component damping system) technology which may be described as an integrated multicomponent injection moulding process. The exploitation of specific properties of different materials results in better crash behaviour and improved long-term part response. Reductions in part load and warpage are also observed. Dura Automotive has achieved series production of a guide rail for a sliding window module for VW. This article describes the key steps and the results of the sophisticated process development involved.
