Efficiency, emissions advances keep recip engines in the DG mix
Diesel engine/generator sets have proven ideal for infrequent, intermittent, full-load duty in utility-sponsored load management programs and in standby service. Now they're being asked to provide extended annual hours of service, in part because they now produce one-third to one-fourth the emissions of the average fossil fuel-fired power plant while running at a mechanical efficiency of 43% or higher.
