Polymers produced from renewable resources are gaining in our green-conscious global society. Products made from many of these bioplastics also offer biodegradability and compostability, adding to their appeal. And the price gap between more costly bioplastics and conventional polymers is narrowing, as efficiencies in the production of plant-derived raw materials are developed and oil and energy costs continue their sharp rise. The demand for biodegradable and compostable plastics is expected to increase nearly 20%/yr through 2010.
