Kinetics and products of ethylbenzene ozonation in an acetic acid medium
The kinetics of the ethylbenzene reaction with ozone in an acetic acid medium were studied. Ozone was shown to react with ethylbenzene mainly at the aromatic ring to yield oligomeric ozonides. Of the sidechain oxidation products(18.1%), 1-phenylethanol, 1-phenylethanol acetate, and acetophenone were identified. The chain mechanism of ozone consumption was revealed.
