Influence of self-structuring of reaction medium on the mechanism of deep oxidation of n-heptadecane
A phenomenon of pulsed isolation of volatiles at deep steps of n-heptadecane oxidation is found. Each pulse with a duration of about 2 min results in the isolation of similar to2 x 10(-3) mol/l gases. The interval between pulses shortens from one hour to several minutes with the oxidation depth. Polar oxidation products in a non-polar medium are assumed to form associates (microreactors) in which various reactions proceed with a high rate at a low amount of dissolved oxygen. They play an important role in the overall process and extend considerably the scope of both high- and low-molecular-mass transformation products. It is the latter products that result in the explosion-like decomposition or "inversion" of the associates releasing volatiles. Such an intensely induced decomposition of hydroperoxides in associates is one of the main reasons for the self-inhibition of oxidation.
