Phosphorus-promoted supported silver catalysts for glyoxal synthesis
Activities of supported silver catalysts (initial and promoted with a phosphorus compound) were compared. It was shown that the surface promotion of the supported silver catalyst by phosphorus-containing compounds makes it possible to enhance substantially their activity in the partial oxidation of ethylene glycol to glyoxal. The enhancement of catalyst activity was associated with an increase in the process selectivity due to the suppression of deep ethylene glycol oxidation and a decrease in coking.
