Structural characterization and hydrogen absorption properties of over-stoichiometric laves phase metallic powders for Ni-MH batteries
The effect of various compositional substitutions for metallic powders belonging to the over-stoichiometric class AB(3) were studied for hydrogen uptake, structural properties, and behavior as hydride electrodes in a Ni-MH battery. Small compositional changes were found to affect the structural properties, the maximum hydrogen uptake, and the stability of the discharge capacities for charge-discharge cvcles. All the alloys had a mixture of cubic C15 and hexagonal C14 secondarv chases with the Unit cell parameters varying as a function of the chemical composition. The alloy Zr0.6Ti0.4V0.9Mn0.47Cr0.3Ni1.33 showed a good stability of its discharge capacity for tip to 110 charge-discharge cycles.
