Gas sensing semiconductor probes for the determination of air/fuel ratios in burning gas mixtures
The properties o lambda sensors: commercial Bosch LSH12 electrochemical lambda sensor (Y2O3 - stabilized solid ZrO2) and manufactured resistant sensors from (i) 1% Pt/TiO2 and (H) (1% Pt + 1% Sn)/TiO2, in detection of gas burner fumes (burning gas mixture consisted of oxygen and propane-butane) were compared. The heating of resistant sensors was provided using a voltage feed (12V - 600degreesC). The sensors worked as good as the commercial ones. A comparison of measurements results obtained for (i) and (ii) suggested that changes in shape of response profile observed for (H) were caused by different amount of oxygen adsorbed on the surface of mono and bimetallic sensors. Satisfactory results created possibilities of application of resistant sensors for controlling the composition of burning gas mixture in gas-fired water heaters and gas-powered applications.
