No-waste epoxidation of allyl alcohol over titanium-silicalite catalysts
The titanium-silicalite catalysts (TS-1, TS-2 Ti-BETA) were used to epoxidation of allyl alcohol (AA) to glycidol with 30% H2O2 in acetonitrile as solvent. Temperature (20-120degreesC), AA/H2O2 mote ratio (1:1-8:1), acetonitrile concentration (5-90 wt%), catalyst concentration (0.1-2 wt%), and reaction time (1-4h) were studied as process parameters. The optimal technological parameters of the epoxidation of AA to glycidol are as follows: temperature 20degreesC, AA/H2O2 mote ratio 1:1 (for Ti-BETA AA/H2O2=2), acetonitrile concentration 90 wt %, catalyst concentration 1 wt %, and reaction time 180 min (for TS-2 90 min). With TS-2 (the best catalyst), glycidol yield was 85 mol %, selectivity to glycidol 94.4 mol % and AA conversion 90 mol %. Glycerol was the only by-product.
