Analysis of propagation and partitioning of air-borne pollutants
The SIMPLEBOX multimedia fate and transport model was used to analyze the Propagation and partitioning into environmental compartments (media) of benzo[a]pyrene, AcOEt, ethylene oxide, toluene, and 1,4-dichlorobenzene over the SouthWest Poland similar to6300 km(2) (former Wroclaw Voivodeship) area. Air, water, biota, suspension, bottom sediment, and agricultural soil, natural soil and other soils were taken as environmental compartments. Yearly average meteo conditions, wind speed, 0.1 m/s, and air layer 500 m thick were considered. Except for benzo[a]pyrene, the pollutants were in the air and at low concentrations so that possible emissions were believed to offer minor or no hazard at all. Benzo[a]pyrene built up 99% in the soil and in bottom sediment, its level in biota should be carefully monitored. 1,4-Dichlorobenzene, PAH and polychlorinated biphenyls concentrations in 5 compartments were evaluated in relation to temperature (5-35degreesC), number of aromatic rings, and number of Cl atoms, resp.
