Energy-saving technologies in transportation of concentrated suspensions in pipelines
A two-phase transportation equipment involving a disintegrator (low-rpm homogenizer), a pump for concentrated suspensions, a 125 min x 515 m pipeline, and a unit feeding compressed air into the pipeline, was designed and used to transport concentrated (27.8-53.3% dry wt.) non-newtonian carbonation muds. At the max. air flow velocity, the resistance to flow of the 53.3% mud was lower by 60% as compared with the conventional single-phase mode. Ostwald's exponential model coefficients, exponent n and constant k, varied for the muds within 0.49-0.61 and 0.064-4.89 Pa(.)s(n). resp.
