Studies on the synthesis of propane-1,3-diol, a new raw material for polyester fibers. Part 2. Hydrogenation of 3-hydroksypropanal to propane-1,3-diol
3-Hydroxypropanal was hydrogenated to propane-1-diol in an aqueous solution in the presence of powdered Ni catalyst at 40-100degreesC, 1-6 MPa and catalyst concentration 0.4-2.5% for 2 h. The conversion of 3-hydroxypropanal increased with inreasing reaction temperature, catalyst concentration, reaction time and pressure. The selectivity of propane-1-diol formation decreased with increasing reaction temperature and decreasing reaction pressure but did not depend on the catalyst concentration and reaction time.
