Synthesis of, and electrochemical studies on conductance in, rubber plus NaClO4 plus activated carbon systems
Elec. cond. was studied in (a) 1,4-polybutadiene and (b) poly(1,4-trans-butadiene-styrene), each polymer doped with a methanolic 40% NaClO4 used in excess and with a 900-m(2)/g activated C (10% by resin wt.) at (a) 243, 293, 303 and 313 K and (b) 272, 293, 313 and 323 K by using 0.88-cm(2) plates 2 mm thick at 1 and 100 kHz. The data were: (a) 6.1, 5.2, 4.9 and 6.4. 10(-4) S(.)cm(-1) at I kHz; 6.1, 5.4, 5, and 6.1(.)10(-4) S(.)cm(-1) at 100 kHz; and (b) 3.9(.)10(-6), 2(.)10(-7), 2.7(.)10(-9), and 6.4(.)10(-9) S(.)cm(-1) at 1 kHz; 2.2(.)10(-5), 2(.)10(-5), 1.9(.)10(-5) and 2.5(.) 10(-5) S(.)cm(-1) at 100 kHz. The systems were examd. as anticorrosive coatings for metals and antistatics that removed elec. charges from fuel containers. At > 293 K, the b-system was unsatisfactory and a bituminous coat was required to prolong the useful life of the polymer coat.
