The use of enzymatic catalysis for making biodiesels
A review with 24 refs. covering lipases (Rhizomucor miehei, Thermomyces lanuginosa) used to convert glycerols into Me or Et esters, oils most often used (soybean, sunflower, palm, rapeseed, canola, lauric, and cotton-seed), appin. of solvents (EtOH, AcOMe) as media, advantageous aspects (near room temp., low-purity feed) vs. long reaction time, and prepn. of a new biodiesel gliperol (10 hrs., 40 degrees C, 30% enzyme (oil basis wt.), AcOMe used in 12 mole excess, 92% yield).
