Effect of the conditions of cereal instant coffee granulation on the product yield and quality
Sixteen charges of cereal instant coffee powders were agglomerated in an industrial rotating disk granulator to granules above 2 mm in diam. under varying powder wetting time, tau (10-55 s), steam pressure, P (0.15-0.50 MPa), rotational disk speed, n (20-50/s), and drying-up temp., T (340-393 K). The plant productivity (230 kg/h) increased with increasing P (up to 280 kg/h), with decreasing tau and T and showed a max. on the n at 30/s. The mass fraction of the desired granules (about 75%) decreased with increasing t. n and T and with decreasing P The product humidity (34%) decreased with decreasing P and with increasing n.
