A new generation of non-flammable epoxy resins crosslinked with a polymeric curing agent
Mixts. of Bisphenol-A-based epoxy resins, epoxy novolacs and novolacs were cured in Me Et ketone with poly(m-phenylene Me phosphonate) (PMP, 5-20%) optionally in presence of a com. flame retardant. The O index of the crosslinked resins was higher than those of the resins cured with 2-Et-4-Me-imidazole at the same content of the flame retardant (up to 10%). Also the efficient combustion heat, mass loss rate, heat release rate and CO, emission rate were lower when PMP was used as the curing agent. The mech. properties of the cured resins were also better when the PMP was used.
