Physicochemical studies on sand clay and bentonites modified with a cationic surfactant
Bentonite and sand clay were modified with dialkylamidoamine lactate to make the materials hydrophobic and then leached with H(2)O and cold and hot EtOH. The IR spectra of the bentonites before and after the leaching showed the presence of lactate cations introduced by Na and Ca ion exchange. The leaching of sand clay samples resulted in a dramatic decrease of lactate ion content.
