A portable device for odor identification and measurements was constructed and used for studying the malodorous impurities in off-gases from a municipal landfill, a piggery and a meat-waste utilization plant. The results were visualized by statistical factor (principal component anal.). The gas from the municipal landfill contained mainly MeH (65.5%) and CO(2) (39.5%).
