Optimization of conditions of catalytic oxidation of propylene dichlorohydrin. Effect of oxidation temperature and the dichlorohydrin concentration
CHOH(CH(2)Cl)(2) was oxidized in aq. soln. (conc. 2.5-50 g/L) with air O(2) on grainy Pd and 2 monolithic Pt-Rh catalysts at 300-600 degrees C. The gas condensate was analyzed for total org. C, CH(2)O, Cl, CO and polychlorinated dibenzodioxines and dibenzofuranes. The optimum reaction temp. was 450-550 degrees C where the toxicity eqiv. of the combustion gases was threefold lower than its allowed value (0.1 ng/m(3)).
