Accumulation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants growing on sewage sludges of petrochemical origin
Sixteen polycyclic arom. hydrocarbons (PAH) were detd. in industrial sewage sludges from PKN Orlen, Plock, PL, in 2002-2004 and in 11 mono and dicotyledonous plants growing on the sludges. The sludges contained up to 1639 mu g/kg of total PAH (main component benzo[ghi] perylene up to 555 mu g/kg). The highest content of total PAH (377 mu g/kg) was obsd. in yarrow (mainly phenanthrene 90 mu g/kg). The dicotyledonous plants showed higher ability to accumulation of PAH comparing to monocotyledonous ones. The 3 and 4 ring PAH were accumulated more intensive than the 5 and 6 ring PAH.
