Polymeric Analog of Isoxazolinium Permanganate - Preparation and Use as Synthetic Reagent
A crosslinked polystyrene-supported solid phase analog of isoxazolinium permanganate was prepared and used as a recyclable oxidizing reagent. The reagent was prepared by a series of polymer-analogous reactions starting from styrene-divinyl benzene(DVB) and styrene-ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate(EGDMA)(2%) crosslinked polymer. The reagent was found to oxidize alcohols to carbonyl compounds in near-quantitative yield. The EGDMA crosslinked polystyrene-supported isoxazolinium permanganate was found to be more efficient in terms of capacity, reaction time, and product yield. The spent polymeric reagent after the oxidation step can be easily removed by filtration and can be regenerated and reused several times.
