For several years, structured packings are of high importance in distillation and absorption processes. Improvements in capacity and efficiency helped structured packings to their success and are still targets of current development work. However, always the question comes up for mechanical stability of structured packings and which packing bed height can be realized with a certain material type and material thickness. Two different methods are presented to measure the mechanical stability of structured packings and to answer that question.
