Metal Nanoparticle Catalysts for Oxidation of Propene with Molecular Oxygen
AgPd bimetallic nanoparticles were prepared by the reduction of the salts of Ag+ and Pd2+ ions with NaBH4 in the presence of poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP) in an aqueous solution placed in an ice bath and were characterized with a transmission electron microscope (TEM) equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDS). The prepared AgPd bimetallic nanoparticles had higher catalytic activity and selectivity for aerobic oxidation of propene to propene oxide than did conventional Pd salts and Pd and Ag monometallic nanoparticles.
