Effect of temperature on fundamental mechanical properties of homogeneous solid propellants
Five corn. solid rocket propellants were studied for mech. properties after continuous thermal and mech. loadings during long term storage. The mech. loading had a strong impact on a delicate and metastable internal structure of the propelants. An uncontrolled increase in the burning surface was observed both in ballistic tests and under normal operational conditions. Temp. relationships of Young modulus, braking strain and stress were detd.
