Isoprene by Prins Condensation over Acidic Molecular-Sieves
The Prins condensation of isobutylene with formaldehyde over different catalysts (HY, USY, H-ZSM-5, H-Boralite, H-B-MCM-41) having various pore sizes and acidities has been investigated in a pulse microreactor. The results show unambiguously that high selectivities to isoprene are obtained only in the presence of weakly acidic Bronsted acid sites.
