Iron doped carbon aerogel - New electrode material for electrocatalytic reduction of H2O2
A new electrode material based on carbon paste (CP) modified with Fe doped mesoporous carbon aerogel (Fe-CA) was used for H2O2 electrocatalytic reduction. Fe-CA was prepared by using the sol-gel method coupled with the supercritical drying with liquid CO2, and followed by thermal pyrolysis. The morpho-structural characteristics of the obtained material such as surface area, pore size distribution, pore volume, elemental content, phase composition and mean crystallite size were obtained from N-2 adsorption/desorption isotherms, elemental analysis, TEM and X-ray diffraction, respectively. Electrochemical behavior of (Fe-CA)-CPEs and their ability to catalyze the electroreduction of H2O2 has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry and amperometric measurements, performed under different experimental conditions (pH, potential scan rate and H2O2 concentration). The kinetic and analytical parameters of the investigated modified electrodes recommend them as stable, sensitive and reproducible sensors for H2O2 amperometric reduction. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V.
