Solubility of Pyrene in Binary Alkane Plus 1-Octanol Solvent Mixtures
Experimental solubilities are reported for pyrene dissolved in seven binary mixtures containing l-octanol with hexane, heptane, octane, cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane, 2,2,4-trimethylpentane, and (1,1-dimethylethyl)cyclohexane at 26 degrees C. Results of these measurements are used to test two mathematical representations based upon the combined nearly ideal binary solvent (NIBS)/Redlich-Kister equation and modified Wilson model. For the systems studied, the three-parameter combined NIBS/Redlich-Kister equation was found to provide the better mathematical representation, with deviations between experimental and back-calculated values being on the order of +/-1.5% or less. Slightly larger deviations were noted in the cask of the two-parameter modified Wilson equation.
