Specification and Layout of Equipment for a Combination of Mechanical and Thermal Processes for Solid Materials
The processing of solids in a process chamber of an equipment is based on a macroprocess. It can be effected by a combination of mechanical and thermal processes. The relationship between mechanical and thermal processes for solids is discussed using one example for each main group of the macroprocesses: fragmentation, separation, agglomeration, and mixing. General conclusions on the relation of the conception and design of equipment are drawn. Concerning research and education, it would be helpful to demonstrate the connection of the macroprocesses of mechanical and thermal process engineering, as is commonly done in practice.
