Fabrication and Electrochemical Performance of Porous Nickel-Based Hybrid Electrodes from Anodized Etched Aluminum
A three dimensional interconnected porous nickel hydroxide-nickel hybrid electrode was fabricated by electroforming nickel on anodized etched aluminum followed by electrochemical treatment. The porous nickel was roughened by cyclic voltammetry cycling between -1.5 and -0.2 V. The nickel hydroxide was grown in-situ on the roughened porous nickel by cyclic voltammetry cycling between,0 and 0.5 V and the XRD results confirmed the existence of alpha-Ni(OH)(2). High volumetric capacitance (1559 F cm(-3)) and large areal capacitance (7.01 F cm(-2)) (at a scan rate of 1 mV s(-1)) were obtained for the hybrid electrodes. The present hybrid electrodes also showed good cycling stability (93% of the initial capacitance after 500 cycles at a scan rate of 10 mV s(-1)). (C) 2013 The Electrochemical Society.
