Nine quaternary ammonium bromides with optionally O-acetylated 1,4-anhydro-D,L-ribitol-5-yl, D-glucopyranosyl and D-mannopyranosyl substituents were synthesized and tested for mutagenicity using a new test on dim mutant of Vibrio harveyi A16 strain. Results were comparized with negative and positive controls (well-known acridine mutagen ICR-191). All tested substances revealed mutagenic activities.
