New polydiallyldimethylammonium herbicides. Synthesis and biological activity
(CH2=CHCH2)(2)NMe2Cl was (i) converted with com. herbicides to org. salts of general formula (CH2=CHCH2)(2)N+Me2X-, where X- = 4-Cl-2-MeC6H3OCH2COO(I), 2,4-Cl2C6H3OCH2COO- (II), 4-Cl-2-MeC6H3OCH2COO- (III), or 2-MeO-3,6-Cl2C6H2COO- (IV) (yield 96-98%) or (ii) polymerized with 2,2'-azo-bis(2-amidinopropane) dichloride to resp. polymer and converted with pairs of com. herbicides to mixed polymeric salts of I and III (1:1), of I and IV (2:1) of II and III (1:1) or of 11 and IV (2:1) (yield 90-95%). The salts were studied for biol. activity against some weeds. The salts with X = I, III and IV showed higher activity against cornflower than the com. herbicides. The polymeric salts showed lower activity than the com. herbicides used except for the salt with X = I + IV against cleavers.
