Ferromagnetic exchange coupling between the 4f(7) inner shells in the Gd-2 molecule leads to a (19)Sigma ground state. Electron-spin-resonance evidence is presented. Analogies to other exchange-coupled diatomics and to larger Gd clusters are considered.
