Simulation of Internal Recycling of Adsorption Heat with Phase Change Materials
Phase change materials are able to store heat through a liquefaction phase change at a predetermined temperature. When using amine-functionalised adsorbents for CO2 removal, the excess adsorption heat leads to a decrease in equilibrium capacity, which can thus be mitigated by storing the heat for adsorbent regeneration during the desorption step in a vacuum swing adsorption. This integration diminishes the temperature variations and renders the process more efficient, whereat the exact integration strategy has a strong influence on the overall efficiency of the phase change material performance.
