Substituted imidazoles as corrosion inhibitors for N80 steel in hydrochloric acid
Three synthesized imidazole derivatives, namely 1-[hydrazinyl(4-methoxyphenyl)methyl]-1H-imidazole [HMPMT], 1-[hydrazinyl(phenyl)methyl]-1H imidazol [HPMI] and 1-[hydrazinyl(chlorophenyl)methyl]-1H-imidazol [HCPMI] have been used as corrosion inhibitors for N80 steel in 15% HCl using weight loss, electrochemical polarization, AC impedance and SEM techniques. The results show that the inhibition efficiency of all inhibitors increases with the increase in inhibitors concentration. All studied inhibitors act as mixed inhibitors and obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Corrosion inhibition takes place through adsorption phenomenon.
