Polar order disruption in achiral polymeric composites
In polar composites, the molecular structure of the monomer component strongly affects the mesophase properties in the polymer matrix. High ordered smectic phases detected in the monomer molecule produces its segregation. The observed destructive phenomenon to achieve antiferroelectric phases is related to the new structure of the low molar mass molecule, which directly affect their mesomorphic properties and the affinity in the polymeric matrix. There is enough evidence about the importance of mesophase affinity between monomer and polymer in the composites that allows the development of antiferroelectric phases. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V.
