Molecular self-organization: A single molecule aspect
When performing serial reaction turnovers, structurally changeable (bio) macromolecules can regulate or even drastically alter their functional regimes through nonequilibrium phase transitions [see e.g. Christophorov et al. (2000) [10] and Christophorov and Kharkyanen (2005) [11]]. Such effects of intramolecular dynamic self-organization are of hidden nature and sometimes sophisticated to be distinguished in ensemble experiments, while single molecule (SM) experiments suit this purpose best. With the example of the simplest model of an SM reaction which admits bistability we show how the molecular synergetics effects can be recognized right in the primary statistical characteristics (on-time distributions and auto-correlation functions).
