Charge trapping in poly(1-amino-anthraquinone) films
Poly(1-amino-anthraquinone) films prepared by electrochemical polymerization of 1-amino-9,10-anthraquinone in 6 M H2SO4(aq) have been studied by cyclic voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy in 6 M H2SO4(aq) in order to understand kinetic limitations on the quinone electrochemistry. Reduction of the quinone groups was found to occur rapidly close to the formal potential of ca. -0.1 V vs. SCE, while the reoxidation peak was shifted to much higher potentials (>=+0.36V), even at 5 mVs(-1). This trapping of the quinone in its reduced state can be explained by an increase in the resistance of the film as the poly-aniline backbone is reduced. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
